This time last year I struck out to keep track of the beers I drank and do a bit of writing on the subject of foamy brews. It went fairly well for a while. This site – much Twitter time with the beer community – meeting several great beer folks – and drinking many great beers.
The real world often gets in the way…
Mrs. Ohabeer and I decided on a major life change this year. No – not a child. A new business. Specifically a BBQ joint. The work of researching cooking BBQ for crowds, getting a location and setting that location up has pretty much consumed any time I would have for writing here. So I’m putting this into archive mode for now while I focus on my new job and passion. I still drink and brew a lot of great beer but I have to focus on the new life at The Cha Cha Hut.
- Yep – been away working on @chachahut. Sampling night 01.09.10. Details at http://chachahut.com #

Once again, OAB has reverted to a Twitter stream site. There is a very good reason:
Mrs. Ohabeer and I are opening a BBQ joint in Roxbury , NY.
It is called the Cha Cha Hutand will feature the area’s only authentic slow smoked BBQ. The meat: Pulled pork, brisket, ribs and wings. The sides: mustard slaw, Smoked Mac & Cheese (we cook it in the smoker) and Smoked BBQ Beans (three kinds of beans, our house sauce all cooked in the smoker).
Needless to say, it’s keeping me busy. I have a ton of review notes but little time to write them. I hope to get back to things here soon. In the meantime, it will continue to be a bit sporadic…
- Good lord. I think I've actually completed ALL of the paperwork for the @chachahut DOH application. Going to submit this Friday. #BBQ #

- Tonite's beers: Avery Fifteen Anniversary Ale & Sierra Nevada 13th Release Harvest Ale. The Avery: like a cidre Breton + barleywine. Lovely #

November 7, 2009 is the American Homebrewers Association’s (AHA) 11th Annual Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day and Hennessy Homebrew Emporium in North Greenbush is participating in this year’s celebration.
Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day is an international event celebrated each year on the first Saturday in November with the goal of introducing people to the homebrewing hobby and establishing relationships with local homebrew supply shops and homebrew clubs. Hennessy Homebrew Emporium is happy to invite anyone who is interested in learning how to homebrew to stop by on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 11 a.m. To encourage participation in this rewarding hobby, Hennessy Homebrew Emporium will provide free grains for those who come by to brew and to learn.
In 2008, over 2,100 participants brewed approximately 2,800 gallons on Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day at 140 sites worldwide (including sites in Canada, Kenya, Denmark, and 40 states in the United States). This year, the AHA expects even greater participation.
“One of the great things about homebrewers is they are happy to share their knowledge and to pass on the joy that they find in homebrewing to others,” states Gary Glass, the director for AHA, “that’s really what Teach A Friend To Homebrew Day is all about.”
For information on how to participate in this year’s Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day event and to view the registered sites, visit www.beertown.org/events/teach/index.html.
