- Long day much work. Kicking off with Left Hand Black Jack Porter. Lighter than most porters. Nice and smooth. Goes well with bourbon. #
- @MikeLovesBeer congrats on the home. Now the real spending starts! Houses will bleed you dry. Trying not to spend this year. #
- @DrinkCraftBeer the carob porter looks great. How’s the taste? Drinking Left Hand Black Jack Porter here. Nice solid porter. #
- Next up a real fave: Victory Storm King Stout. Truly wonderful. Llama Farmers on the stereo. #

Brewery: Flying Dog
Location: Frederick, MD
Style: Lager
OK. That’s it! I am absolutely convinced Flying Dog can do no wrong. There is nothing in their line I have not thoroughly enjoyed. (Granted I still have a few left to try.)
A while back, I discussed the Underworld lager – a solid lager that makes you want to dance around to “Born Slippy .NUXX” shouting “lager, lager, lager”. This is the pinnacle of an Underworld lager.
Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber Lager pours a (not surprisingly) dark amber color. The head is a bit foamy but collapses quickly. Big big malt aroma. The taste is as one would expect from the smell. Heavy malt flavor with a bit of dryness. A clean refreshing drink perfect for post snow shovelling/firewood moving chores.
5.5% ABV makes this a great multiple bottle brew. As good as it was on a chilly winter afternoon, I am betting it will work just as well next to the BBQ this summer.
As per Ohabeer lager review custom, enjoy an Old Scratch while watching this:
