This time last year I struck out to keep track of the beers I drank and do a bit of writing on the subject of foamy brews. It went fairly well for a while. This site – much Twitter time with the beer community – meeting several great beer folks – and drinking many great beers.

The real world often gets in the way…

Mrs. Ohabeer and I decided on a major life change this year. No – not a child. A new business. Specifically a BBQ joint. The work of researching cooking BBQ for crowds, getting a location and setting that location up has pretty much consumed any time I would have for writing here. So I’m putting this into archive mode for now while I focus on my new job and passion. I still drink and brew a lot of great beer but I have to focus on the new life at The Cha Cha Hut.

Hennessy Homebrew Emporium

Call 283-7094 for more information.

November 7, 2009 is the American Homebrewers Association’s (AHA) 11th Annual Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day and Hennessy Homebrew Emporium in North Greenbush is participating in this year’s celebration.

Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day is an international event celebrated each year on the first Saturday in November with the goal of introducing people to the homebrewing hobby and establishing relationships with local homebrew supply shops and homebrew clubs. Hennessy Homebrew Emporium is happy to invite anyone who is interested in learning how to homebrew to stop by on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 11 a.m. To encourage participation in this rewarding hobby, Hennessy Homebrew Emporium will provide free grains for those who come by to brew and to learn.

In 2008, over 2,100 participants brewed approximately 2,800 gallons on Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day at 140 sites worldwide (including sites in Canada, Kenya, Denmark, and 40 states in the United States). This year, the AHA expects even greater participation.

“One of the great things about homebrewers is they are happy to share their knowledge and to pass on the joy that they find in homebrewing to others,” states Gary Glass, the director for AHA, “that’s really what Teach A Friend To Homebrew Day is all about.”

For information on how to participate in this year’s Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day event and to view the registered sites, visit www.beertown.org/events/teach/index.html.

From the Blind Tiger newsletter:

As you might of heard around the ol’Tiger, Christmas in July is at hand. For you new-comers, this is a celebration of the winter holidays in true Blind Tiger fashion – BEER!!! What sounds better than enjoying all those big chewy spicy holiday brews in the middle of the summer? What is so great about the holidays in the winter, anyway? Now there are no heavy jackets to lug around; angry shoppers with their angry children bumping in to you; unwanted relatives – sucking every nickel out of you for gifts; sitting at home alone with a plastic tree wondering where it all went wrong and how you could – Uh, sorry about that… Lets talk about holiday beer!!!

This Wednesday July 22nd at 4:00PM, the Blind Tiger will be rolling out some of the rarest and tastiest holiday brews around (with a few non-holiday gifts) in celebration of our 10th Annual Christmas in July. This is a list of some of the beers we are expecting – an up-dated and final list will follow on Tuesday.

Event: Brooklyn Beer Dinner @ Lily’s in the Roger Smith Hotel
Date: Thursday June 11th
Location: Lexington Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets
Cost: $35/ preson with reservations | $45 for walk ins

Just got a note from Adam over at the Roger Smith Hotel. They are throwing a 3 course Brooklyn Beer dinner on June 11th. According to the ever dashing Brian Simpson (see video below), you can expect Brooklyn I.P.A., Weisse, Summer Ale and (a personal fave) Local 2. Manning the food side of things is chef Daniel Mowles and the whole thing goes down at Lily’s in the Roger Smith Hotel. $35/person with reservation or $45 if you walk in.

Once again, a beer event that makes me wish the OAB HQ was closer to NYC. If you happen to go, please drop back by and leave a report in the comments.
