I haven’t really done much of a restock lately to the cellar. We’ve been a bit too busy around OAB HQ drinking various foamybeers – our own line of brews. A recent trip to pick up more brewing supplies lead us to drop by Oliver’s discount Beverage in Albany. so, the latest beerventory…

We were looking for something simple but slightly big to go along with our Cha Cha Hut Chili Chicken and decided Smuttynose Really Old Dog Brown Ale would do the trick. We probably should have noted the 10% ABV before opening, but that’s another story…
This pours a medium brown with a light head that falls quickly. The scent is full of malt with a touch of chocolate and something else we could not put our nose on. Upon tasting we figured out the mystery scent: raisins. Or at least some sort of dried fruit. The dark fruit flavor plays well off the dark malts making for a very delicious beer. I moderate bodied beer, it’s not too sweet and balances the flavors (including some slight hoppiness) well. Plus, it stood up well against the spicy chicken making for a perfect pairing. Certainly one we’ll be heading back for again.
A recent client meeting meant a trip to New Paltz, NY and a return visit to K & E Discount Beverage. Our mission was to add a few more bombers to the cellar and begin the transition to ale drinking season. I did end up buying one six pack.

My favorite alehouse in New York City – Blind Tiger Alehouse – is having another event that makes me regret ever leaving NYC in the first place. (Not that the OAB HQ in the mountains isn’t pleasant and all…)
Smutt-a-palooza – Smuttynose @ Blind Tiger Alehouse NYC
The time has come yet again for Smutt-a-palooza, or the Smuttynose Event for those of you neophytes. Now this special event requires a few things from us Tigerites: 1) Get some rest before you partake in this adventure, 2) Stretch out the limbs because this work is not for the tense, and 3) Apologize to your friends and family, because things do get a little murky. Now that we are ready…
